Volgens de Financial Times (FT) bekleedt Guy Verhofstadt een sleutelpositie in het oplossen van de huidige eurocrisis. Wat zeggen we? "Guy Verhofstadt, a gap-toothed (jawel) former Belgian prime minister (...) has become the legislator most feared by member states and the European Commission" schrijft de FT.

"Verhofstadt holds the key" gaat het verder, en "He is himself a separate institution. He has an enormous impact on the opinion of the parliament."
